Bowral is the biggest town in the Southern Highlands, and it is a place I like to go to every now and then, to escape the frenetic energy of Sydney. It’s about a 90 minute drive from the CBD, or around an hour and 45 minutes on the train. But along the way you get to see some fantastic scenery. Famous for being the home of Don Bradman, this is an easy town explore on foot. There is lots to see and do here, including some great wineries, waterfalls, walking […]

An eastern suburb that is pretty much halfway between Bondi Beach and the Sydney CBD, it is a chic, bustling district that is well known for its collection of eclectic boutique shops – which are located in the row of spectacular terraced buildings along Oxford Street. Also renowned as a cutting edge epicenter for art, film and fashion, this district also has fabulous restaurants and nightlife, as well as a vibrant gay scene. If you are ever in Sydney, I highly recommend a visit to Paddington. As no other part […]

Any visit to Sydney would not be complete without checking out Balmain. A location near and dear to my heart, I spent several years in my early twenties living here. Balmain has a certain charm about it. Especially when it comes to the gorgeous little terrace houses that line in the backstreets. It also has a rich history too. In the 1800s it was considered the industrial hub of Sydney, whilst in 1881 the Australian Labour Party was formed here. During the 1920s, it developed a reputation for being a […]

Potts Point

Potts Point is one of my favourite parts of Sydney. For a start it has Kings Cross in it, which is where many of the best bars, clubs and nightlife in the city can be found! Also, as it is situated at the base of a small peninsula that extends into Sydney Harbour, (on the eastern side of Woolloomooloo Bay) it enjoys a gorgeous waterfront location, which always lifts my spirits whenever I go there. An upscale area, Potts Point also has some very impressive and expensive homes, a couple of […]

Eastern Suburbs

The Eastern Suburbs is my ‘hood. I have lived in this area for many years now and I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else! There is so much to see and do around this locality, including great beaches, excellent cafes and restaurants, a thriving nightlife scene, some wonderful art galleries and museums, and one of the most famous city parks in the world. If you come to Sydney and don’t visit the Eastern Suburbs I will be personally offended! If you do decide to check the area out though, I […]

South Coast

I really like the South Coast of NSW. Stretching from Sydney, all the way down to the border with Victoria, it is a terrific region to visit.  It has some wonderful beaches, as well as some awesome national parks, many of which feature stunning lagoons and rainforests, that are great places to chill out. The area is also known for its many opportunities for camping and other outdoor activities, whilst the wildlife is as diverse as its landscape. I tend to visit the South Coast 3-4 times a year, and […]

Central Coast

I love Sydney, but sometimes I need to get away. And when I do I head straight for the Central Coast. Surrounded by vast areas of exceptional beauty, including the Hawkesbury River, Watagan Mountains and the southern part of Lake Macquarie, it is a great place to get back to nature. I can think, and breathe, when I get to the Central Coast, and it really makes me appreciate living in a country as beautiful as Australia. If you are planning on visiting the area there are lots of great […]

Blue Mountains

I love the Blue Mountains! And even though I have been there on multiple occasions it never ceases to amaze me with its sheer beauty and magnificence. If you have not been to the Blue Mountains before I can’t recommend doing so highly enough. You really haven’t seen nature until you have paid a visit here. The Blue Mountains is very rugged terrain which features the most dramatic scenery. I’m talking ancient formations of steep cliffs, gorgeous waterfalls, eucalyptus forests and wide open spaces. It is about 50km to the north […]

Northern Beaches

Between Manly and Palm Beach lies a fantastic stretch of coastline known as the ‘Northern Beaches’. As you would expect with such a name, the beaches in this region are absolutely sensational. But the area is also known for its laid-back outdoor lifestyle, great surfing, urban sophistication and lovely architecture too. Although it is only about 40kms from the Sydney CBD, the Northern Beaches may as well be a world away. I highly recommend you visit here, as it always makes a nice change up from the frenetic energy of […]

The Shire

I go to ‘The Shire’ on a regular basis because I just love the beaches, rivers, national parks and relaxed, friendly, laid-back nature of the place. Officially known as the ‘Sutherland Shire’ it is just 25km to the south of the Sydney CBD and only 20 minutes from Sydney airport. So its very easy to get to from the city, via all forms of transport. Known for its café culture and excellent bars and restaurants, The Shire is also a good spot for shopping. In addition it has some fabulous […]

Newtown is a great place to check out, on your next visit to Sydney. Packed with many great shops, bars and restaurants, it is always a hive of activity whenever you go. A rather bohemian neighbourhood that features some gorgeous, restored 19th century Victorian buildings and impressive street art that includes a mural of Martin Luther King, Newtown has a young and vibrant feel about it. Possibly as a result of all the University of Sydney students that live around the area. It is only 4km away from the Sydney […]

Sydney City

Sydney city is somewhere I spend a lot of my leisure time. I have been lucky enough to travel to some of the greatest cities in the world, including London, Paris, Bangkok and New York. But for me Sydney ranks up there as the best of them. There are so many things to see and do in Sydney – world class landmarks, beautiful architecture, numerous cultural attractions, a fantastic dining scene and great nightlife to name, but a few. I also believe that the city has a unique vibe that […]
