The Strand Arcade

The Strand Arcade

Tourist Attractions

One of Sydney's most picturesque shopping destinations is the Strand Arcade. A beautiful example of Victorian architecture, the Strand Arcade was opened in 1892 and added to the New South Wales State Heritage registry in 2011. This thoroughfare between the bustling George Street and Pitt Street Mall, features an open design, with light from the glass roof filtering all the way to the ground floor.

The busy ground floor has an impressive array of stores from tiny cafes which spill out into the arcade, nut shops, jewellers, gift stores, chocolatiers and antiques. Continue up the stairs, and you have the home of Australian designer fashion. From wedding gowns, to party dresses, to luxury weekend wear, these stores have you covered. Showcasing some of Australia's best fashion designers, the boutiques here will have you maxing out your credit card if you're not careful, but regardless how much you spend, they will definitely inspire you with their beautiful designs and creativity.

Once you've shopped and you can shop no more, then head upstairs to level 2 for a well earned rest. Here, at the western end you will find Pendolino. This iconic restaurant is a beautiful example of Italian food, and some of the best you will find in Sydney. With an 'oil library' to choose from, and delicious homemade bread to dip into it, from the first bite you will be in no doubt about the quality and care that goes into providing an unforgettable dining experience here. Or for something a little less grand, walk to the Pendolino's little sister restaurant, La Rosa at the eastern end. The home of traditional Roman pizza and pasta, and a wine list to keep all your tastebuds happy, in this dimly lit interior you will find the perfect place to recover from a day of shopping. Pizza, wine and impeccable Italian hospitality ' perhaps the best way to end the day in beautiful Sydney.
