Previously known as the Australian Youth Hotel, the Glebe Hotel has been providing refreshment to Glebe locals since 1862. With old school, classic charm this place is full of character and the recent renovation has been impeccably done leaving this iconic pub feeling fresh and fabulous.
The public bar feels like home to locals and newbies alike, and a few pics from the archive serve as a reminder of the hotel’s long history. Further in and the old stables have been converted into the Stables Bar & Grill, offering a bright and breezy dining room and a sense of space that belies this inner city location. Dining tables spill out into the dog-friendly courtyard where you can enjoy a long lazy afternoon with friends in the dappled sunshine.
When it comes to the food, you won’t be disappointed either. Serving up some of the area’s best gastro pub food, your tastebuds are sure to be delighted here. British-style meals are given a fresh overhaul with seasonal ingredients and the results are delicious. The Steak and Guinness pie is a crowd favourite and the Spring Chicken is succulent, served with soft goat’s chees polenta, green beans and a mushroom and tarragon sauce. Vegetarians are well catered for too, with a delicious selection of salads and options such as Eggplant Schnitzel providing a fresh take on an old classic.
