For an over the top meal that you won’t forget, there is Rockpool Bar and Grill. Tucked in Sydney’s decadent Mutual Building, the space is as grand as the meals. Art deco in it’s design, you will be dwarfed by loft ceilings and towering pillars of marble, and there so many wine glasses at the ready that they are practically an art installation. This place is unashamedly fancy. But don’t let that be a reason not to come, this is precisely why you should visit.
Neil Perry is no stranger to the Sydney restaurant scene and has been delighting Sydney diners here at Rockpool for two decades now. The premise here is simple – perfectly cooked wood fire grilled meat and seafood from Australia’s best producers. Top quality product is at the centre of everything that is done here, with everything sourced directly from the best growers to ensure top quality every time. Simply prepared, meals are not drowning in sauces or over-complicated, allowing the flavours to take centre stage.
Meat from the wood-fired grill is the hero here. Beef especially is a house favourite, where you select the age and cut of your steak and then the sides that you’d like with it. While this meat mostly takes centre stage here, the seafood is impressive. Lobster, crab, mussels, trout, and flathead all make an appearance on the menu and do not disappoint. Washed down with some of Australia’s best wine, indeed Perry proves that Australian food and wine really is some of the best in the world.
