The longest beach in Sydney's eastern suburbs, Maroubra beach is a favourite among locals. Great for both surfing and swimming, and less touristy than it's northern neighbours Bondi and Coogee, Maroubra beach is a family friendly place where you can enjoy some space and spend a beautiful day. Parking is a little easier here than as some of the other eastern beaches, but it can still get very busy on weekends if the weather is nice, so bus is a good alternative if you're coming from the city.

Along this impressive stretch of beach, there are two surf life saving clubs, and with lifeguards on patrol year round you can be sure to enjoy the water in safety. Maroubra beach is known as one of the safest beaches in Sydney, however as with all Sydney beaches, conditions can get dangerous at times, so it is important to always swim between the flags. For surfers, this is a great beach too, with the biggest waves in the area. It is suitable for those just starting out and wanting lessons, as well as those with more experience.

In addition to the surf clubs, you will find all the facilities you need here ' toilets, showers and BBQs. There is also a playground and even a skate park. Plus with plenty of grass bordering the sand, you are sure to find a great spot to enjoy a picnic here. Perhaps fish and chips from Barnacles' Or a burger from Feedbag Burger Restaurant' All the traditional beach takeaway options are covered, and of course there is always icecream for dessert. If you'd prefer a break from the sun, then there are no shortage of cafes to choose from as well, including the Pavillion Beachfront restaurant with it's beautiful view across the beach and the ocean. The Bay hotel and Diner is also a fine choice with delicious versions of all the classics and with all the right beers on tap, this might just be the perfect place to wrap up a great day.
