Beaches

One of Sydney's most popular beaches, Manly beach is definitely one to make sure you visit while you're in town. Easily accessible from the city centre by ferry, the trip alone makes this beach worth a visit. You can expect a breezy half hour on the ferry taking in Sydney's spectacular harbour on your way here. And if you make your way back to the city around sunset then you can enjoy stunning sunset views with the iconic Opera House and the Harbour bridge in the background.

A few hundred meters along the Manly Corso that extends from the wharf to the beach, and you will see why this beach is so popular with both locals and tourists alike. Pine trees line the promenade and beyond is a beautiful expanse of sand curving along the bay and then it's just clear blue waters. This sandy beach provides ample space for everyone to find their own little patch of sand to enjoy a picnic, sand castles or simply or some well earned rest in the sunshine.

Manly beach is a long-time favourite among surfers, so if you like to catch some waves this is a great beach for you. Weather dependant, this might mean it's not suitable for swimming everyday or for young children, however the beach is patrolled daily by lifeguards allowing both surfers and swimmers alike to enjoy the water. Even if you prefer to stay dry, the sand, the sunshine and the atmosphere always mean you can have a great day here. All the facilities that you need are there too, including BBQs, toilets and showers. In addition, there are countless cafes, restaurants, bars and pubs within stone's throw of the beach so the toughest decision of the day will likely be deciding where to enjoy your next meal.

While you're in Manly, be sure to take a walk along the promenade too. The beach stretches for almost 2 kilometers along the bay towards the North, and in the other direction leads you over the rocky terrain to the beautifully hidden Shelly Beach. After all that, or if you have caught a little too much sun, then the mall provides lots of shopping opportunities too. You can find surf wear and souvenirs in droves here so you can be sure to find the perfect item to remember your beautiful day at one of Australia's best beaches.
