Australian Museum

1 William St, Darlinghurst NSW 2010

The Australian Museum is a heritage-listed museum at 1 William Street, Sydney central business district, New South Wales, Australia. It is the oldest museum in Australia, and the fifth oldest natural history museum in the world, with an international reputation in the fields of natural history and anthropology.

After a year of renovation, we’re thrilled to welcome visitors, members, volunteers and friends back to a transformed and free Australian Museum.

The $57.5 million redevelopment of our nearly 200-year-old museum known as Project Discover has delivered tremendous outcomes that will be enjoyed by guests for generations to come: redesigned gathering spaces, expanded galleries, more of our collection on display, a new shop, a second café, a renovated Members Lounge and updated amenities.
